FADE IN:

EXT. ENCHANTED MEADOW - AFTERNOON

Early spring. Wild flowers paint the fields in pastel hues.
Birds sing. A fawn sniffs the air. AMBER and JADE, two wood
nymphs, in simple gowns and sandals, gambol through this
meadow. They are young, beautiful, lithe and spirited. They
pause to pick wild flowers with which they adorn each others
hair.

COLLEEN and HERBERT enjoy a picnic lunch. Colleen is an
attractive girl with a Wisconsin farmer's daughter sort of
freshness and beauty. Herbert is tall and awkward, but very
intense. A man possessed by his own destiny who speaks with
fervor. Colleen is utterly enraptured, catering to his every
whim, anticipating his slightest fancy, hanging on his every
word.

HERBERT
Such limpid pools of azure are your eyes,
Has perfect angel taken mortal guise? No
woman could such elegance express,
Without assistance from some sorceress.
Colleen turns away modestly and busies herself preparing a
muffin from the picnic basket.

COLLEEN
Your love is blind to all reality;
What you perceive as beauty just reflects
This spring day's natural vitality
In me no more than others of my sex.
Your words are precious, but mere words
are vain,
As eas'ly wrought by prince as charlatan;
If passions govern, let your actions
reign,
For deeds, not words, are measure of the
man.

Colleen breaks apart the muffin and feeds a bite to Herbert.

HERBERT
My sweet, for you shall I raise towers
grand
Which shall outshine all others through
the land;
Erections with such permanence bestowed
That time can neither ravage nor erode.

Colleen pushes Herbert over, springs to her feet and runs to
the cover of a nearby tree, enticing Herbert to a quick game
of chase. The game leads them near the bushes where Amber and
Jade stand.

COLLEEN
Court not my favor with erections great
Which overtower others and endure
The rigors man and nature orchestrate;
For joys ephemeral are those most pure.
True love renews with each pristine
daybreak,
Like morning's dew or youthful maiden's
blush;
If love stays firm each morning you
awake,
Why prove yourself with but one mighty
thrust?

Herbert catches Colleen playfully, but she shoves him away
and darts to another tree. Amber scatters some færie dust,
transporting Jade and herself to the boughs of the tree.

AMBER
She speaks with wisdom which her youth
belies,
But lacks the sense to recognize a fool.

JADE
When hearts embrace desire, bare reason
flies;
She'd love this ass no less were he a
mule.

AMBER
With færie magic father Puck devised,
Such fundamental faults would manifest.

JADE
A mulish face could not this fool
disguise,
Nor turn his visage any more grotesque.
Herbert speaks with expansive gestures which encompass the
entire meadow.

HERBERT
This flame you've kindled in my heart's
too great
For any simple act to demonstrate;
Tall mountains shall I move; wide valleys
fill;
And raging rivers bend to suit my will.
Colleen returns to the picnic blanket and invites Herbert to
rest his head in her lap.

COLLEEN
Let Nature place her mountains where she
wants,
For Nature's nature much resembles man's;
Unlikely daunted by your foolish vaunts,
She's likely to impose her larger plans.
Amber and Jade reappear behind the bushes.

JADE
A horse's ass should have a horses head!
Let's see if Bottom's plight makes him
less proud.

AMBER
So badly have her senses been misled,
She'd think him otherwise likewise
endowed.
Jade looks to Amber mischievously.

JADE
A færie would not wish to disappoint
A maiden with ideals so innocent.

AMBER
With Robin's færie dust we shall anoint
And shameful features turn magnificent.

As Colleen affectionately massages Herbert's temples, Amber
and Jade slip out of the bushes and advance unseen. They each
sprinkle some færie dust over Herbert then slip back into the
cover of the bushes to watch and wait, barely concealing
their anticipation.

A large, elongated bulge appears in Herbert's pants. As
Herbert watches with amazement and alarm, it slowly extends
from his groin down his pants leg toward his knee.

Colleen continues massaging his temples affectionately,
oblivious to his plight. Herbert's eyes dart nervously from
the bulge to Colleen's face.

COLLEEN
Let's share an apple and together plant
A tree to shade this verdant meadow fair;
With our love Nature will this tree
enchant,
So that, as fares our love, shall it
compare.
If love grows strong and firm, its boughs
will grow
And burst with luscious fruit in like
regard
As roots delve deeply through the soil
below.
But shallow love withers ...

Herbert, who has watched with mounting agitation as this
bulge extends to his knee, sits up abruptly, then quickly
rolls over to hide this mutation.

COLLEEN
(continuing)
Was that too hard?

HERBERT
Too hard you say?
(aside)
Of course, she meant her touch.
(to Colleen)
You'll be the first to know if it's too
much.
(aside)
Caresses may relax or agitate
According to the needs they satiate.
Amber and Jade giggle in merriment.

JADE
Too hard you say? I say not hard enough.
Let færie magic run its full extent.

AMBER
Ascensions should be made of sterner
stuff.
Let that which hung in shame stand
eminent!

Amber sprinkles some more færie dust, transporting herself
and Jade to a tree overlooking the picnic.

Sensing an unusually strong tremor in his loins, Herbert
stands abruptly, turning from Colleen. The bulge in Herbert's
pants stiffens, forcing his thigh toward his chest.

Herbert hops around on one foot, trying to maintain his
balance.

Colleen, still not comprehending Herbert's predicament, looks
on with concern and dejection over his apparent rejection of
her affections.

Amber and Jade laugh so hard they nearly fall from the bough.

COLLEEN
What trouble causes you to jerk away
And leap about as if by hornets stung?
Did I offend? What did I do or say?
With what great, heavy burden are you
hung?

HERBERT
A muscle spasm, nothing more intense.
It will subside after a few moments.
Leave me. It's private and if truth be
known,
It's sensitive and handled best alone.

Colleen entreats Herbert repeatedly, but each time he turns
away, hopping on one foot, trying to maintain his precarious
balance.

COLLEEN
What burden eases by one hand, not two?
What throbbing yields not to a soft
caress?
What private ache denies a love that's
true?
What cruel defect could make me love you
less?

HERBERT
No private anguish, but a joy too great
Which grows too large to ever consummate.

JADE
Is joy too great? Then færies are
beguiled.
Is this not every mortal's secret dream?

AMBER
What joy exceeds the bliss of a young
child?
Let greatest joys now very childish seem.
Amber scatters some more færie dust.

The bulge in Herbert's trouser leg disappears and, with it,
the force he had been working against to maintain his
balance, with the result of causing him to immediately topple
to the ground.

Amber and Jade nearly split their sides laughing and again
nearly topple from the bough.

Colleen rushes to Herbert's side. Herbert rises, shoving his
hands into his pockets as if looking for a lost set of keys.

HERBERT
As quickly as it came, did it also go;
The ache's entirely gone, or nearly so.

COLLEEN
Then come forget your troubles for a
while;
A gentle breeze, a perfect sky above,
A loaf of bread and wine beneath the
bough,
Give me your hand, this day was made for
love.

Colleen reaches out her hand to Herbert who stands somewhat
like a child who badly needs to relieve himself, both hands
plunged deeply into his pockets.

HERBERT
(aside)
If I were only half so well equipped;
This archer's arrow is no longer tipped.
(to Colleen)
Once fine designs this day did cruelly
thwart;
I would prefer if we could cut it short.

Amber and Jade are seized by convulsions of laughter. They
make various rude gestures with their fingers indicating
rather short imaginary lengths and scissors motions. Amber
scatters some færie dust, transporting them to another area
of the meadow.

They turn, still laughing to come face-to-face with OBERON,
King of the Færies, and his Queen, TITANIA. OBERON is a giant
among færies with a severe countenance, made more so by his
evident displeasure. TITANIA is an attractive, stately woman
with a kindly air and dignified gait.

TITANIA
Is this not Amber and companion Jade,
My young wood nymphs fair Venus greatly
blessed,
But wise Minerva favored somewhat less?
What mischief have you two this morning
made?
Amber curtsies.

AMBER
We have traversed each meadow, field and
dale
And opened morning's fragrant blooms
anew.
Jade curtsies.

JADE
With flowers we have painted hills
pastel,
And done all Oberon has bid us do.

OBERON
Most nobly have my færies served their
lord
And proven worthy of my trust and pride;
Lest any think their efforts were
ignored,
Each worthy deed shall have its just
reward.
(beat)
Grave peril now confronts our færieland,
So I must now a vital task confide;
With all your father's magic you command,
I know you'll keep this matter well in
hand.

Amber and Jade bow in supplication. Oberon bids them rise
and directs their attention to Herbert and Colleen.

OBERON
(continuing)
Our foe's a mortal man of great regard,
A mason who builds huge abodes of stone,
Where people gather looking battle
scarred
To buy and sell goods they'll next day
discard.
(beat)
This meadow he'll despoil a fortnight
hence,
And then shall færies forfeit all they
own
To common men who lack the common sense
To know each act must have its
consequence.
Amber and Jade turn to face Oberon, who addresses them
directly.

OBERON
(continuing)
This Herbert loves Colleen, both wise and
fair,
Whose love for him is by my spell
ensured,
And love of nature is beyond compare;
For her this mason shall his plans
forbear.
(beat)
He'll make this land a gift for his new
bride,
Thus shall enchanted meadows be secured;
Good færies, keep yourselves close by
their side;
Should love or magic falter, be love's
guide.

Oberon turns and leaves. Titania begins to follow, then
pauses and draws Amber aside confidentially.

TITANIA
All you impaired you will, of course,
restore
In equal stature as was once enjoyed;
Or better yet, let's surfeit passion's
void
And give these mortals just a little
more.
Titania turns and leaves. Amber and Jade look at each other
sheepishly.

JADE
How sad the fate of færies should depend
On the spellbound affairs of such a fool!

AMBER
So færies may live, true romance must
end.
Is an illusive life or death more cruel?

JADE
True love and fancy are likewise
abstract;
Can any love survive a litmus test?

AMBER
If love's mere fantasy, then what is
fact?
Love's dreams are but reality's bequest.

JADE
Worse fates befall young maids than to be
wed
To gentlemen of power, wealth and skill.

AMBER
Were he so skilful, wealthy and well
bred,
No spell would be required to change her
will.

JADE
As Oberon commands, we must obey
And guide these lovers to their wedding
vow.

AMBER
Then true love shall these mortals find
today
With all the bliss enchantment shall
allow.

Amber scatters some færie dust, transporting Jade and herself
to the bushes by the picnic area.

COLLEEN
What could compel you to withdraw so soon
From this plush, private garden of
delight?
You've hardly touched a thing all
afternoon;
Indulge yourself with just one little
bite.
Colleen takes a nibble from an apple and holds it invitingly
just below her lips.

AMBER
More fervent passion does this suitor
need
To court so sensitive a ladylove.

JADE
Then may his ardor all restraints exceed.
Let's see what lies beneath his velvet
glove.
Jade scatters some færie dust.

Herbert straightens his posture, as if seized by a sudden
burst of energy.

HERBERT
(aside)
I feel myself again, but so much more.
The embers burn much hotter than before.
(to Colleen)
Small bites won't satisfy my appetite
Until I've ravished everything in site.

Herbert seizes the apple and takes a huge bite out of it. He
tosses the apple aside and grabs Colleen by the shoulders.
Still chewing noisily, he kisses her lustily on the neck.
Colleen shoves him aside and rises to her feet.

COLLEEN
This lusty vigor is a welcome shift,
But like your prior pity, much misplaced;
Content yourself with these delicious
gifts
And set aside for now designs unchaste.
Colleen takes a fresh red apple from the picnic basket and
playfully tosses it to Herbert, then settles on the picnic
blanket.

Herbert contemplates the apple for a moment then changes his
grip on the apple, as if to throw it. He rises and
approaches the blanket where Colleen sits.

AMBER
Too easily did she evade his grasp!
Romance requires great strength to long
endure.

JADE
He'll have virility to make her gasp
And strength enough to keep a love that's
pure.
Jade scatters some færie dust.

Herbert straightens his posture and quivers as an unfamiliar
power surges through every fiber in his being. Herbert looks
at the apple, now vibrating in his hand.
As he looks with amazement, his fist tightens around the
apple, crushing it as if it were a wet sponge and splashing
mashed pulp and apple juice over Colleen's face and blouse.

Colleen tries to maintain her composure and make the best of
the situation, delicately dabbing the juice from her face
with a lace napkin.

HERBERT
This apple crushed much like an empty
peel;
My once frail grip has now become like
steel.

COLLEEN
A flawless skin may hide defects within;
Perhaps its meat was not so firm as ripe.
No matter; we have plenty. Try again.
You may have more luck with a dif'rent
type.

Colleen offers Herbert a large yellow apple from the picnic
basket. Herbert smiles sheepishly and reaches out to take the
apple from her. As Herbert's fingers close on the apple, it
crumples between his fingers, splashing Colleen again with
juice and pulp.

COLLEEN
(continuing)
Your actions seem more rude now than
polite;
To splash your sticky juice in half a
trice
Without a moment's notice is not right;
I might forgive you once, but cannot
twice!
Colleen rises abruptly, angrily.

Herbert reaches out and grasps her arm to restrain her, but
only succeeds in tearing her blouse, exposing Colleen's bosom
immodestly. Colleen clutches her blouse to her neck and turns
from Herbert, as her rage dissolves into tears. Herbert
rises, apologetic.

HERBERT
Against each noble wish my heart desires
My every member ruthlessly conspires;
Colleen, believe me, I meant you no pain;
My hands have strength which I can scarce
explain.

AMBER
Do eloquent words fail our errant knight
And leave his most heroic deeds unsung?

JADE
My færie magic can set matters right;
Let Herbert have the land's most facile
tongue.
Jade scatters some færie dust.

COLLEEN
If precious love's delights could taste
less sweet
Their loss would leave no bitter
aftertaste;
What seemed true love was passion's cruel
deceit;
It seems my love for you has been
misplaced.
Herbert approaches Colleen and gently places his hands on her
shoulders, nuzzling her affectionately as he speaks.

HERBERT
With Cupid's deadly aim you've pierced my
heart;
And filled my soul with passion from the
start;
Your fragrance sweetly scents the air I
breathe;
Sweet maiden, let me now my sword
ensheathe.

Herbert becomes more aggressive, drawing Colleen to him.
Colleen struggles to free herself and they fall to the ground
together. Colleen disentangles herself and rises, angrily.

COLLEEN
You spurn affection and ignore this feast
Which I took pains all morning to
prepare;
Then pounce upon me like some vulgar
beast,
And now profess it's love which you
declare.
Your love is true but to yourself alone;
My future's cast by those capricious
Fates
To love no other; hence, I'll love disown
And solace seek behind stern convent
gates.
Colleen turns and runs away.

Herbert stands alone in the meadow.

HERBERT
She's gone. All's lost except my empty
self,
A void and useless vessel on the shelf;
In work the meaning lost to love is found
Right here shall I tomorrow break new
ground.
Herbert charges off, a man with a mission.

Amber scatters some Færie dust, transporting herself and Jade
to the abandoned picnic blanket. Amber and Jade begin helping
themselves to the picnic goodies, even as they seriously
discuss the dire consequences of the day's events. Amber
plunges a finger into the jar of jam and licks a glob of jam
from her fingertip.

JADE
Because of us shall færies lose their
land
For shopping malls in midst of paradise.
Jade picks a chunk of turkey out of a sandwich, smears a glob
of jam over it and munches on it, casually tossing the rest
of the sandwich back into the basket.

AMBER
Wise Queen Titania will understand
And offer errant færies sage advice.

FADE TO:

EXT. ENCHANTED MEADOW - MORNING

Queen Titania strolls through the meadow, attended by several
young Færie children who scamper about, picking flowers and
chasing butterflies. In another area of the meadow, SAPPHIRE
reclines lazily. Her slumber is interrupted by GARNET, who
is clearly excited.

GARNET
An angry passion's ready to erupt
Like a volcano trembling underground.

Sapphire feigns disinterest and tries to return to her nap.

SAPPHIRE
Our passions serve no purpose more
profound
And thrill our souls because they are
abrupt.

GARNET
I speak about none other than our king,
Aggrieved by pranks, as thorns might
scratch his side.

SAPPHIRE
Our king should learn to take these
pranks in stride,
For nymphs are wont to do no other thing.
Sapphire again turns away.

GARNET
But this thorn which our king's attention
begs
Is more annoying than the rest combined.

SAPPHIRE
No nettlesome thorn could more mischief
find
As one which Oberon keeps 'tween his
legs.

GARNET
He'll banish Amber for a thousand years
For playing pranks with mischief maker
Jade.
Sapphire sits up, now intensely interested.

SAPPHIRE
No simple prank could leave his nerves so
frayed; What scandalous offense has
reached his ears?

INSERT - TITANIA - C.U.

looking toward Sapphire and Garnet with a concerned
expression.

BACK TO SCENE

GARNET
This beats the time when Jade and Amber
crept
Through every chicken coop before
midnight.

SAPPHIRE
And told each rooster 'twas already light
While weary farmers in their chambers
slept.

GARNET
At stroke of twelve each cock arose as
one
Insisting farmhands rise and make some
hay.

SAPPHIRE
It wasn't hay those farmers made that
day;
But then, no day's a waste that's well
begun.
Sapphire and Garnet begin to giggle. Noticing Titania
approach, they quickly regain their composure, rise and bow
before their queen.

TITANIA
Has nature now achieved such perfect
grace
That my wood nymphs must occupy their
time
With idle talk and gossip out of chime?
In all my realm, is nothing out of place?

SAPPHIRE
We'll catch a cloud and sail upon the
breeze
Across the length and breadth of your
domains.

GARNET
And gather rainbows after morning rains
To paint fresh blooms and color autumn
leaves.

Sapphire and Garnet run off to attend their duties. Titania
resumes her stroll about the meadow. Amber and Jade approach,
their heads hung low, as if attending their own execution.
Titania notices Amber and Jade and sends the children to play
elsewhere.

TITANIA
Have færies cause to mourn this cheerful
morn?
Now Mother Nature revels in her prime
Bestowing perfect days with joys sublime,
But why are Jade and Amber so forlorn?

AMBER
With best intents we posed in Cupid's
rôle,
But actors never were so poorly cast.

JADE
The situation's now beyond control,
All hopes of saving Færie lands have
passed.

Titania wraps a comforting arm around Amber and Jade on
either side and strolls with them through the meadow.

TITANIA
In worldly matters, Oberon is wise,
But love affairs extend beyond his main;
Like mortal men, he tries to love enchain
And stifles what he hopes to vitalize.
(beat)
Your charge was star-crossed from the
very start;
Unbridled passions drift and go askew,
Unless in equal measure shared by two;
True love can't flourish trapped in but
one heart.

Titania directs Amber and Jade to a far corner of the meadow.

TITANIA
Beyond this meadow grows an apple tree
Where Cupid practices his deadly aim;
It's potion tainted fruit will love
inflame,
But Oberon's spell it will also free.
(beat)
Go, gather fruit from this enchanted
tree;
Prepare our lovers a most tempting meal
Which will inspire for them a love that's
real
In equal measure, as love ought to be.

FADE TO:

INT. COLLEEN'S HOME - DAY

The telephone rings. Colleen ignores it. The telephone
continues to ring. Colleen sits by the phone and contemplates
it, collecting her energy, harnessing her anger. She picks up
the receiver and holds it to her ear.

HERBERT (O.S.)
Colleen, forgive me....

EXT. TELEPHONE KIOSK - DAY

Amber and Jade each hold a telephone receiver and exchange
mischievous glances.

AMBER
(Herbert's voice)
... I've been such a fool.
The things I did were nothing short of
cruel.

DISSOLVE TO:

INT. RESTAURANT - EVENING

In the kitchen, Jade sits astride a large, inverted pot
peeling apples from a bushel basket, wearing an apron over
her gown and a chef's hat. A huge mound of peels testifies
to the efforts she has already made. Jade finishes an apple
and drops it into a stainless steel bowl. She grabs another
apple from the basket and examines it. It looks particularly
delicious, so she takes a bite from it.

Jade rises and walks to the oven where Amber is removing an
apple pie. Amber carries the steaming pie to the counter
where a bewildering array of apple dishes is arranged: apple
strudels, muffins, pancakes, fruit salads, apple sauce, baked
apples; everything from appetizers to desserts. From the
dining area, they hear the sound of the entrance door
opening.

Amber and Jade run to the service window and peer through.
Colleen enters the dining room and looks about, waiting to be
seated.
Amber and Jade quickly remove their chef's hats and aprons,
fix their hair and gather their composure. Amber looks at
Jade's gown, then at her own. She scatters some færie dust,
changing them into stylishly sexy waiter's outfits. Amber
greets Colleen with the solicitousness of a maitre d' at a
posh French restaurant.

AMBER
Bon soir. Is mademoiselle alone tonight?
(to Jade)
Garçonne! Une table, s'il vous plaît.
Tout (de)
suite!

Amber snaps her fingers. Jade scurries forward to greet
Colleen. Jade seats Colleen at a table, spreads her napkin on
her lap and hands her a menu. Jade scatters some færie dust,
causing a silver tray with a glass of apple juice to appear
in her hand.

JADE
With compliments, our jus de pomme
delight;
Fresh squeezed, a hearty tang and not too
sweet.

Jade sets the glass of juice before Colleen who nods in
appreciation and turns her attention to the menu.

INSERT - MENU - CLOSE-UP

which lists dozens of apple dishes and nothing else.

BACK TO SCENE

Amber and Jade withdraw to the back of the dining room and
watch Colleen with eager anticipation.

JADE
(continuing)
One sip of Cupid's juice, if drunk alone,
Will free her heart from Oberon's love
spell.

AMBER
And clear her palate for delights unknown
Which savory entrées then shall impel.

JADE
Impelled to love or else by love impaled!
But not before a drop has passed her
lips.

AMBER
But she ignores her drink! Our plan has
failed,
For Herbert now arrives before she sips.

Herbert enters the restaurant and makes a beeline to
Colleen's table.

HERBERT
Colleen, when you left me my spirit died;
Life's meaningless without you by my
side.
Amber and Jade approach the table.

AMBER
Perhaps monsieur would like to order now;
May I suggest a tasty apple dish?

JADE
Our apple strudels are le chat's meow;
Or start with apple sorbet, if you wish.
Jade sets a dish of apple sorbet before Herbert.

Herbert shakes his head to decline their suggestions and
scans the menu, impatiently, finding nothing of interest.

HERBERT
No, I'm a man of rather simple tastes,
And sweet desserts just devastate my
waist.
Colleen shakes her head to decline.

COLLEEN
Though most agreeable, if firm and sweet,
The apples we had earlier today
Were overripe with most unpleasant meat;
Tell me what other dishes you purvey.

AMBER
Our apple-raisin crêpes are sheer
delight,
Or try our apple yoghurt diet plate.

Jade presents a bread basket full of muffins with a flourish.

JADE
We've baked hot apple muffins! Have a
bite;
Low calorie for those who watch their
weight.
Herbert shakes his head emphatically to decline.

HERBERT
Plain muffins after those Colleen did
bake?
Just bring me mashed potatoes and a
steak.

COLLEEN
Just half a cantaloupe with cottage
cheese
And herbal tea for me would be okay;
At risk of seeming impolite, but please,
I've had enough of apples for one day!
Amber and Jade exchange looks of exasperation. Amber and Jade
withdraw.

Herbert turns to Colleen earnestly.

HERBERT
My father kept a silver flower vase
Upon a stand above the hall staircase;
When mother died, he hired a chambermaid
Who daily picked fresh roses she arrayed
In this antique which empty stood so long
Without it seeming anything was wrong;
My heart is like that empty silver vase,
Not knowing pain until it lost your
grace.

COLLEEN
My empty vase is waiting to receive
The perfect flower of your perfect love;
But which of your aspects should I
believe,
The thorn below or petals seen above?
Your words are gentle, but your acts are
rude;
Though tongues be gifted, actions clearly
speak
Expressing truths not eas'ly
misconstrued;
Are you a prickly thorn or flower sweet?

HERBERT
Until today my actions were inane,
Not merely rude, but meaningless and
vain;
But with you by my side to motivate,
I'll awe the world with what I shall
create;
That meadow where we lunched, you may
recall,
Is where I'll build the world's best
shopping mall.

Colleen backs away in repulsion.

COLLEEN
You covet love to vulgar deeds inspire
And love with envy, lust and greed
confuse;
It's only pure emotions I desire;
You'll have to find yourself another
Muse.
Colleen rises in anger and turns toward the door, nearly
colliding with Jade, carrying a bowl of apple- cinnamon ice
cream on a silver tray.
The bowl topples from the tray and Colleen catches it,
smearing ice cream over her fingers in the process.
Amber arrives and hands Colleen a towel but, in her haste,
Colleen takes no notice as she hurries from the dining room.
Amber and Jade exchange worried glances.
At the door, Colleen licks a drop of ice cream from her
finger tip, then storms out without looking back at Herbert.
Herbert, downcast, looks at the dish of melting apple sorbet.
An apple seed floats in the liquid. Herbert fishes the apple
seed from the dish with a spoon. He contemplates the seed
for a long moment. Suddenly he springs from his chair and
hurries out of the restaurant, the precious seed held
carefully between his index finger and thumb, past a
dumbfounded Amber and Jade.

FADE TO:

EXT. ENCHANTED MEADOW - MORNING

A wistful Colleen strolls through the meadow, gazing at the
natural wonders which will soon be lost, deeply inhaling the
crisp morning air and feeling the warm glow of sunlight on
her skin. As she approaches the site of the prior day's
picnic, she sees Herbert, hunched over on his knees. She
quietly steals forward and sees Herbert filling in a small
hole with a garden trough.

Herbert leans back to contemplate his work. Sapphire and
Garnet appear behind some bushes.

GARNET
His magic puts our færie pranks to shame;
Before our eyes a tiny seedling sprouts.

SAPPHIRE
Soon it's the tallest sapling hereabouts;
There's magic greater than our spells to
blame.
Colleen approaches.

COLLEEN
Let's share an apple and together plant
A tree to shade this verdant meadow fair;
With our love Nature will this tree
enchant,
So that, as fares our love, shall it
compare.

Herbert hears her voice and rises. An embarrassed smile
comes to his lips.

HERBERT
To spoil this meadow would be a disgrace;
I'll build my shopping mall some other
place.
A small tear comes to Colleen's eye. Herbert and Colleen
embrace and kiss. As they kiss, Oberon and Titania emerge
from the bushes surrounding the meadow.

OBERON
What nobler end can færies realize
Than giving mortal love a magic touch
To steer it through those trials life may
devise
And overcome whatever may arise.
(beat)
Rejoice, it's springtime! Let us dance
and sing!
Combined, our færie magic can do much;
Encircle two hearts in our færie ring;
Come færies, elves and nymphs and join
your King!

Amber, Jade, Garnet, Sapphire and the færie children emerge
from the woods and join hands with Oberon and Titania,
forming a ring around Herbert and Colleen.

TITANIA
A mortal love that's innocent and true
Has magic charms no spell can imitate;
Let's leave the course of their romance
to fate
And trust their love's own magic sees
them through.

As the mortal lovers embrace, the unseen færies begin dancing
in a ring around them.

FADE OUT.
